This is a wonderfully arranged piece of Level One music from the American Christian songbook, useful in almost any season or Christian situation. The half note chordal beginning moves (with much musical expression) into a quarter-note-led middle, and then finishes quietly and beautifully into half note chords again.
The piece is advanced Level One (it has more dynamic expression and an occasional 8th note in the treble), but is certainly not Level Two -- it is playable by a first year choir, but not one that is just starting off -- we envision this as a first year concert piece in Advent or in Lent.
It is gorgeous music.
• Key of C Minor, 4/4 time signature, marked "expressively, unhurried" 88 speed
• Half notes and quarter notes dominate at various times, and the rhythmic pace quickens and slows nicely; there are no accidentals save one final major chord
• There are no special techniques except a couple of bass bell echoes in two spots
• Dynamics are medium throughout, with long cresc/decresc lines and a ritard; this is excellent writing for Level 1
