Our foam padding is the same standard density, long-life gray polyurethane offered by most handbell suppliers -- however, we can save you a substantial amount on both pad costs and shipping costs! Our padding is sent directly from our distributor and comes "vacuum-sealed" in a much smaller package than the usual. The foam gradually unfurls to its full size in an hour or two, but this gentle opening simply emphasizes the savings you'll receive (it is also fun to watch it happen). (There is one caution: care must be taken when opening the vacuum-sealed package with a scissors or sharp tool to avoid cutting the padding itself)
3" thick pads can be used for smaller bell sets and for solo ringers -- neither requires any extra thickness. 4" thick pads are recommended for protecting larger bell castings from direct contact with the table top, and also offers maximum resonance for special stopped techniques such as martellato and plucking. For chimes, we offer both 1" thick and 2" thick pieces.
Colored chime foam is also available in 1" thick and 2" inch thick pieces. Get your chime foam in red, green, blue or purple!
Handbell Services generally recommends two pads for each linear table dimension - for example, two 4' pads for an 8' table. This offers easier storage and helps with awkwardness while moving equipment.
We also offer smaller 1- and 2-foot pads (3-4-inch thicknesses only) -- to extend padding from 3 to 4 feet or from 6 to 8 feet (this could be necessary when performing outside your location, when attending a festival with provided tables, or when rehearsing in one location and performing in another).
Tip: vacuum-packed foam avoids the hassle of trying to insert foam inside a muslin pad cover or inside a custom Malmark Tote-pac -- simply let the foam unfurl 'inside' the custom cover!
Handbell Services can cut custom length and width sizes if needed. Please call 1-800-37-BELLS for additional information.
