This is the manual that the handchime director/teacher uses -- the master teaching book. It's the key component of the Learning To Ring curriculum - a series based on the premise that ringing skills should be taught in conjunction with good rhythmic skills, and provides any director or teacher with the insights and tools to develop these skills in new musicians.
• Highly recommended as the most comprehensive beginning handchime resource available
This 96-page, spiral-bound instructional manual is presented in four parts:
1) Using Handchimes - An Introduction: includes history, equipment needs, notation, position assignments, conducting, color-coding for non-music readers, rehearsal planning, scoring, and word rhythms for young classrooms.
2) Using Handchimes - Ensemble Ringing: 11 sequential lessons designed to teach basic ringing and music reading techniques skills -- from holding a bell to handling multiple bells. Includes hints and teaching tips throughout.
3) Using Handchimes - General Music: addresses the use of handchimes in the general music classroom from a rhythmic perspective. Topics include -- random ringing, chordal patterns, simple Orff-like accompaniments, melodies, and accompaniment patterns.
4) Using Handchimes - General music: addresses the use of handchimes special needs - an overview of various emotional, mental, and physical impairments commonly found in music therapy, school, and senior populations.
(Please note: Using Handchimes is the teaching resource for the instructor. Rhythm Skills for Ringers as well as one of the selected music collections within the series is used by the partipants.)
