Loading... Please wait...Arr by Sandra Wagner . . . Advent Hymns . . .
This is a lovely and gentle Advent combination, putting together the hymns Let All Mortal Flesh (Picardy) and O Come O Come Emmanuel (Veni Emmanuel). The music, written with quarter and half notes throughout, is really a Level 1+ (publisher lists it as 2-) -- there are a few easy accidentals and a few large dynamic changes, and the time signature of 2/2 is a bit misleading, because it can be read throughout as 4/4 instead -- so the music will seem easy for a decent Level 2 choir. The two hymns intersperse from beginning to end, with a snippet of this and a snippet of that and connecting phrases between all of them -- it is very creative, flowing music that ends in a slow and soft turn.
The indication is to play with either handbells or handchimes -- but handchimes would be our first choice.
• Key of G Minor, 2/2 time signature, marked "gently" 60 speed to the half note
• Quarter and half notes throughout; there are a very few accidentals (most F# in the G Minor key, with a very few others added)
• Some swings are the only special techniques
• Dynamics range from soft to ff, with lots of long swooping changes; there is some opportunity for phrased playing available
